YUE ZHUO teaches modern French literature and contemporary French thought at University of Pennsylvania. Her areas of specialty include 20th and 21st century French literature, literary theory and the intellectual history (psychoanalysis, sociology, anthropology and philosophy) of the 20th century.
She is the author of a forthcoming book on Georges Bataille, La force du négatif: Georges Bataille et la question du sacré, and of numerous scholarly articles on thinkers such as Georges Bataille, Maurice Blanchot, René Girard, Jacques Derrida, Roland Barthes, and Pascal Quignard.
She is currently working on her second book project on late Barthes, entitled Late Barthes, The Neutral as Utopia. Yue Zhuo holds a Ph.D. in French Literature from New York University. Prior to her appointment at University of Pennsylvania, she taught several years at Yale University.
